Protecting Every Heart Beat
Tragically, many dog owners are unaware of a silent killer that can lead to sudden death: heart disease. It's often unrecognized until it's too late, leaving us shocked when our beloved pets pass away unexpectedly. We often never know because the dog dies and that's that. This important issue is rarely discussed, and many veterinarians may not bring it up until it becomes critical. However, heart disease is not only a real concern; it’s also quite common and, much like in humans, very treatable. If your dog has died suddenly and you’re searching for answers, we invite you to explore the resources available through the Canine Heart Foundation, which launched in December 2025.
We are dedicated to increasing awareness and providing scientific data on canine heart health, particularly Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) and sudden cardiac death also known now as SUDDEN CANINE DEATH SYNDROME. We were motivated by an individual instance of veterinary malpractice leading to the early death of a good dog and subsequent inability of a state veterinary board to recognize and sanction the malpractice. They chose to back up a member of the vet community rather than acknowledging that there is a problem with how vets ignore heart condition symptoms of dogs leading to an unexplained and tragic Sudden Death of the Dog. We do not exist to hurt or attack the vet community.
We are here to demand better communications with the vet about our dogs health and knowledge about everything we can do to cope and treat our pet's medical concerns.
We aim to shed light on the devastating losses of seemingly healthy dogs and advocate for greater accountability within the veterinary community. The vet community and vet governing boards don't care to help us understand and deal with this problem so it is up to us to do so. Soon we will be sharing stories from dog owners who lost their dogs unexpectedly with no warning from the vets. Join us in our mission to educate and empower pet owners about the threats canine cardiology disease affects our pups.
About Our Work
The Canine Heart Foundation's commitment revolves around several key pillars designed to transform canine heart health awareness and research. We're building a future where pet owners are widely informed, veterinarians are accountable, and groundbreaking canine heart research saves lives.
Awareness & education
We provide pet owners with vital, clear, and science-backed information about canine heart health, focusing on the often-missed signs of Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) and the risks of sudden cardiac death. Our goal is to empower you with knowledge.
Scientific data & research
Our foundation actively identifies, reviews, and clearly presents existing research on canine heart disease. In the long term, we intend to fund peer-reviewed studies to advance understanding and develop new preventative strategies.
Advocacy
We believe the veterinary medical community must be held to account for the lack of early detection and information regarding canine heart disease. Our advocacy efforts push for improved standards and accountable transparent communication from the beginning. No more secrets, guessing, and pain.
Accountability
The devastating loss of a pet leaves families with profound grief and unanswered questions. We aim to build a supportive community for those affected and provide resources to help navigate these heartbreaking experiences. We want more access to x-rays and overall analysis of our dog's heart health on a frequent basis.
